Half term in Eastbourne…
It’s been a busy few days. Family have been visiting and we’ve managed to pack in a lot of activity this half term. On Bank Holiday Monday we started the day with a 5k time trial in the rain. Sixteen runners assembled at Hollywell and ran the 5k – all doing great times. After that, we hired bikes from the Cuckmere Cycle Centre and took the kids for a bike ride through Friston Forest. Luckily we’d hired a tandem – a wrong turn meant the tandem turned into a taxi as little legs got tired – and I went back to my childhood, and rode the child’s bike (sore legs!). Next stop was Birling Gap for some stone throwing and taking in of views. This is my favourite beach in Eastbourne and has been once again awarded with the Blue Flag. Then it was onto the Sovereign Centre for some swimming with wave machine and slides…
Yesterday we took the kids to see Night of the Museum 2, at our local cinema, The Curzon, a five minute walk away. It’s a bit tatty, but has a nice old fashioned feel – family run and the popcorn’s reasonably priced!
Today, we decided to have an explore Eastbourne day and see what we could find to do. First stop was the fantastic Towner Gallery. What a great place…We saw Lost Horizons, the People’s Place, and Ivan Navarro’s Nowhere Man. Thought provoking exhibitions examining desire, particpation, infinity – and a very positive place to be. The cafe on the third floor was lovely, but we’d already decided on the Ice Cream Parlour, and that’s where we headed next for Honey Heaven and Strawberry Fields… traditional Eastbourne again. From here we went to the Museum Shop for a tour through time, and then it was Waterstones… all in all a good day out…
