10 Essential things to in Eastbourne #2: Teach your children to ride a bike
Another day of brilliant sunshine in Eastbourne today so I thought we’d look for further adventures – this time trying to teach our boy to ride his bike without stabilisers.
I remember learning to ride my bike at a similar age, endlessly rolling up and down a small hill in our back garden, and I reckon that was the catalyst for a lifetime chasing the next adrenaline fix.
So perhaps I was slightly more excited than Raffy this afternoon as we pushed his bike, with stabilisers removed, the 50 yards from the guest house to the promenade and set the little man up, as he nervously twiddled the straps on his helmet.
The moment my child learned to ride his bike unassisted will stay with me forever, a genuine leap of independence and whilst I jumped for joy as a proud, euphoric father I was internally torn between egging him on to greater speed and simply wrapping him up in cotton wool and scurrying back home.
So, if you’re looking for things to do with your family and fancy a holiday or short break in Eastbourne, consider the broad, flat and thankfully hazard-free promenade along the seafront for an unforgettable rite of passage.
