Brr, but beautiful at an Eastbourne bed and breakfast
Looking out from our Eastbourne B&B this morning at clear blue skies and frost glistening from the car windscreen. Beautiful but brr.
If you’re suffering from January blues perhaps you need to be transported to a warmer scene. The UK’s sunniest place, maybe, with balmy breezes, breathtaking scenery and beach-side cafes?
Eastbourne might not be on everyone’s radar but I’m definitely feeling a positive vibe about the place, with media coverage increasing and more guests staying in our accommodation whilst on a search for either a holiday home or even to re-locate completely away from the city and corporate grind.
It isn’t just the sunshine and temperatures that are uplifting. The creative scene is rapidly improving as well.
Take OperaCoast – a weekend operatic course that takes place in July in Eastbourne.
Immerse yourself in the world of opera with the help of top professionals and in the company of other opera-lovers. There will be auditions for principal roles but anyone with some experience of singing and the ability to learn music independently is welcome to join the chorus.
If you need a more immediate creative fix, Towner Eastbourne has Bon Hiver; A journey through a Winter landscape running until March 3.
I’ve just take an atmospheric meander through The Forked Forest Path by Olafur Eliasson (best known for his Weather Project installation in Tate’s Turbine Hall), popping out the other side to enjoy Eric Ravilious’ Downs in Winter, so the strong link with landscape is retained throughout. Well worth a visit, especially when it’s free!
The sun is just starting to set out outside but I feel optimistic for the year ahead in Eastbourne.
I suggest you temporarily forget about wind chill and thermal underwear and book a warming break by the sea right now.
